Watch the first episode of our new web series on widespread Tuscany… first stop? Mugello!

The new Slow Tour exploring widespread Tuscany begins in Mugello and its villages!

Here’s the new Slow Tour of Syusy Blady, traveling in the widespread Tuscany!

Covering a stretch of The Way of the Gods – the famous path that starts from Piazza Maggiore in Bologna and arrives, across the Apennines, in Piazza della Signoria in Florence – Syusy takes in the view over Mugello and enters Sant’Agata

Along the trail she meets an exceptional guide… the Supreme Poet, Dante himself! … Well, almost! Did you recognise him? … Yes, it’s Paolo Hendel!

In Sant’Agata, following Syusy’s steps, we discover La Pieve, an ancient church which houses a painting of the martyrdom of St. Agata. But we also learn of an intriguing local legend… the story of the Burnt Tavern, which casts a shadow on the meals once served to wayfarers along this Apennine route. Today, however, pilgrims on the Way of the Gods take great pleasure in feasting at the Osteriola in Sant’Agata!

Not far from Sant’Agata runs the Gothic Line, one of the bloody theatres of the Second World War, so we make a stop at MuGot (Gothic Line Museum) in Ponzalla.

Then, we continue with Syusy southwards, still in the heart of Mugello, towards Scarperia! There is much to discover here, starting with the splendid Vicari Palace, so reminiscent of Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio.

And the final stop on this first part of the journey? Agriturismo Palazzo Vecchio, owned by Simone Grossi, in Borgo San Lorenzo. Here, in the context of a still unspoilt valley, the Mugello Milk is born – a favorite of Florentines and beyond!

And of course, how could we miss the famous tortelli of Mugello from Borgo San Lorenzo? Syusy has popped into the kitchen and tells us how these delicious potato-stuffed tortelli are prepared. Get your pen and paper – you’ll want to take notes!
