Joining Patrizio, we meet Domenico, a real buttero, Gigetto the bull, and we get to…
A Slow Tour of Upper Lazio with Syusy and Patrizio (4)
The Etruscan Tombs of Tarquinia
In this fourth video of a new slow tour, We follow Syusy as she reaches Monterozzi Hill in Tarquinia, home to the city’s main necropolis, within the Archaeological Park of Cerveteri and Tarquinia.
The site stretches parallel to the Tyrrhenian coast, between the shoreline and the hill of the Civita, where the Etruscan city once stood.
As Syusy points out, each mound marks a tomb.
And here, the veil lifts for us on the Etruscan philosophy of life – which, paradoxically, emerges from the places of death, the tombs.
Tombs that convey a positive feeling, as Syusy notes, because their frescoes depict scenes of life, joyful people, dancing and acrobatics. Almost a nostalgic longing for life itself! After all, only the dead could “see” those scenes up close!
Guided by the director of the Archaeological Park, Vincenzo Bellelli, Syusy visits the Tomb of the Jugglers and the Tomb of the Lionesses and is completely fascinated. Then comes the Tomb of the Ship, magnificent and truly unique.

Just look at it… what a sight!
