Chioggia and the Clock Tower

The oldest functioning medieval clock in the world

The Tower of St Andrew Clock of Chioggia (Venice) is the oldest functioning medieval clock in the world. Attributed to Dondi, it dates back to 1300.

The Tower itself is a vertical museum, each floor is a theme: the history of Chioggia on the first floor, the maps on the second floor, the fishermen’s votive offerings on the third floor and on the top floor a great view on the whole city.

Chioggia is one of the 52 world destinations worthing a visit in 2022 according to the New York Times (the other Italian ones are Naples and Courmayeur).
