Destinations, events, and travel trends to discover in this issue
Read Gate Mag 65
August’s issue is here!
The new issue of Gate Magazine is now available – the bilingual free press magazine distributed in Rome’s airports and the Duty Free shops of Milan airports – Malpensa and Linate – as well as Bergamo, Treviso, Venice, Bologna and Naples. You can also read it online at this link.
In the Italia Slow Tour column you can read an article by Federica Monterisi, from the Italia Slow Tour editorial team, entitled Precious Armenia. Italia Slow Tour was invited by the Armenia Tourism Committee to discover this small country in the South Caucasus, still relatively unexplored by tourists, yet with so much to offer. And to the curious and attentive traveller, it will soon reveal itself as a truly “precious” destination.
Don’t miss the article on page 20 to find out what we discovered about Armenia and let yourself be inspired to discover it too!
August is the month of major departures. Yet we live in an age when it is not easy to truly switch off, even when we are far from home, because we often take the noise of everyday life with us on our travels. “Perhaps the greatest journey isn’t the one that takes us the furthest, but the one that brings us to be present”. This issue of Gate has therefore brought together destinations and experiences around this common theme – which is also our wish for you: embracing every moment with greater awareness.
The first travel suggestion takes us to Greece, and more specifically to the Cyclades. But these are the “other Cyclades” – the islands that are still relatively little known to Italian travellers. Karpathos, Lemnos, Amorgos and… that’s not all: you will discover them all as you read on.
We then turn to the smaller Sicilian islands (spread across three main archipelagos), as well as Pantelleria, which in itself is a world apart. This is a different side of Sicily, one that begins where the land ends and the sea takes over, offering a sense of freedom that is becoming increasingly rare in the Mediterranean.
Then, outside Europe, we invite you to consider an “on-the-rail” journey along the Gulf of Mexico. Less than a year ago, the Amtrak Mardi Gras Service began operating, connecting New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama, restoring a rail link that had been interrupted following Hurricane Katrina 25 years ago. Aboard the vintage carriages, you travel not only through space but also back in time.
As always, we also take a look at fashion, art, the latest high-tech innovations changing the way we travel. Also, events not to be missed, as well as products and practices designed to help us recharge and regenerate. Summer, in fact, can be the perfect time to discover mindfulness and learn how to truly live in the moment – the subtitle of an in-depth feature by Rajan Gualtieri that you will find in this issue.
But that’s not all… there is much more to read in Gate 65. You can find it here. Happy reading!
